From June 2000 to May 2002 – inspector for communications and special equipment of the headquarters of a separate police company under the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, whose functions included ensuring the safety of senior officials and guarding facilities and buildings of state authorities of the Chechen Republic.
From May 2002 to February 2004 – platoon commander of a separate police company under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Chechen Republic for the protection of objects, buildings of state authorities of the Chechen Republic.
In 2003, after A. Kadyrov was elected president of the Chechen Republic, he was the head of the presidential security service. He was engaged in negotiations with members of illegal armed groups about their transition to the side of the federal authorities. On March 2, 2007, the Chechen Parliament approved Kadyrov’s candidacy, proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, for the post of President of the Chechen Republic.
On August 12, 2010, Kadyrov sent an official letter to the Parliament of the Chechen Republic with a request to change the name of the top official of the Chechen Republic. Kadyrov explained his position by the fact that “in a single state there should be only one president, while in the constituent entities the first persons can be called heads of republics, heads of administrations, governors, and so on.”
On February 28, 2011, President Dmitry Medvedev submitted Kadyrov’s candidacy to the Chechen parliament for approval for a second term. On March 5, Kadyrov was unanimously approved in office. On April 5, 2011, he officially took office as head of the Chechen Republic for a second term.
On March 25, 2016, due to the expiration of his term of office, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Kadyrov as interim head of the Chechen Republic. In the regular elections on September 18, 2016, Kadyrov won, according to official data, with 97.56% of the vote with a turnout of 94.8%.
Russian aggression against Ukraine. In September 2015, Ramzan Kadyrov was included in the sanctions list (number 126 on the list) introduced by Ukraine in response to Russian armed aggression.
