Place of Birth. Education. Was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. In 1988 he became the USSR champion in basketball as a member of the Lithuanian children’s national team. In 2002 he started working as a manager at East Capital. Founder Peter Elam Hakansson invited him to work in the company. After a year of work as a portfolio manager, Abromavicius took out a loan to buy 5% of East Capital. Manages East Capital Russian Fund (ECRF) and East Capital Eastern European Fund (ECEEF) with a total volume of over 1 billion euros. Today Hakansson owns 50% of the company, the rest – six partners in approximately equal shares.

East Capital invests not only in Ukrainian assets, but also, for example, Russian ones. During its existence, East Capital has invested more than $ 200 million in Ukrainian companies.

In 2005 he moved to Moscow.

In 2008 he moved to Kiev. He headed the Kiev office of East Capital. In Ukraine, the company bought large amounts of shares in Pivdenny, Nadra, Platinum banks.

On December 2, 2014, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree granting Ukrainian citizenship to Aivaras Abromavichus, as well as Natalya Yaresko, Alexander Kvitashvili, who also entered the government. On the same day, he was appointed to the post of Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine in the new Cabinet of Ministers.

On February 3, 2016, Abromavicius announced that he was resigning due to “a sharp intensification of the blocking of any systemic and important reforms.”

On February 16, 2016, the deputies recognized the work of the government in 2015 as unsatisfactory, but there were not enough votes for the resignation of the Cabinet headed by Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

On April 10, 2016, Yatsenyuk announced his decision to resign as prime minister, and on April 14, the Verkhovna Rada voted for his resignation, canceling the decree of February 16. On the same day, a new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers was appointed, headed by Vladimir Groisman. In the new government, Abromavicius was replaced by Stepan Kubiv in the chair of the Minister of Economy.

In the 2019 presidential elections, he became an adviser to the presidential candidate of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

On June 12, 2019, President Vladimir Zelensky appointed Aivaras Abromavicius Member of the Supervisory Board of the State Concern Ukroboronprom.

July 11, 2019 Aivaras Abromavichus was elected head of the supervisory board of the state concern Ukroboronprom, to which he was introduced on June 12 this year by presidential decree Volodymyr Zelensky.

On August 30, 2019, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Aivaras Abromavicius general director of the state concern Ukroboronprom.

October 6, 2024 President Vladimir Zelensky laid off Aivaras Abromavicius from the post of General Director of Ukroboronprom.

Family. He is married to a Ukrainian woman, Katerina Rybachenko, and is one of the directors of the Ukrainian company Agro Region (an investment facility of East Capital). There are three children.

Hobby. He is fond of contemporary art. Interested in Lithuanian and Ukrainian artists, he organized an open air of 20 famous Ukrainian artists in Crimea. He opened a gallery in Gurzuf. There are over 100 paintings in his personal collection.
