Place of Birth. Education. Born in Molevrier (Main-et-Loire department) and was the eldest of five children in the family. He received his primary education at the Catholic school of St. Joseph in Molevria. From 1961 to 1968 he studied at the Lycée Colbert, in Cholet. Career. In his youth, Ero took part in the Rural Christian Youth Movement. In 1972 he joined the Socialist Party.

1977-1989 - Mayor and municipal councilor of Saint-Herblain. He took the post of mayor at the age of 27, was re-elected in 1983.
Since March 20, 1989 - Mayor and Municipal Councilor of the city of Nantes. Re-elected in 1995, 2001, 2008.
In 1986-2012 - Member of the National Assembly of France from the Department of Loire-Atlantique (3rd constituency). Re-elected in 1988, 1993, 1997, 2002, 2007.
1997-2012 - Chairman of the parliamentary faction of socialists in the National Assembly of France. Re-elected in 2002, 2007.
Since 2002 - President of the city community and member of the council of the community of Nantes-Metropole, re-elected in 2008.
On May 15, 2012, French President François Hollande appointed Hérault as prime minister.
On March 31, 2014, Herault resigned due to the failure of the Socialists in the municipal elections.
February 11, 2016 to May 10, 2017. - Minister of Foreign Affairs after the resignation of Laurent Fabius.
