Nikolay Ivanovich Balan (Ukrainian Mykola Ivanovich Balan) – Ukrainian military, colonel general, Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
Place of Birth. Education. Born on December 12, 1968 in the village of Stary Lisets, Tysmenytsya district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
In 1992 he graduated from the Saratov Higher Military Command School of the Red Banner. Dzerzhinsky Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR.
In 2003 he graduated from the National Academy of Border Troops of Ukraine.
In 2017, he graduated from the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine with honors.
Career. He passed officer positions from platoon commander to head of directorate of the Crimean Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Since 2010 – Head of the Directorate of the Crimean Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
On April 18, 2014, by decree of the President of Ukraine, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
On August 23, 2014 he was awarded the military rank of Lieutenant General.
From February 6, 2015 to December 31, 2015, he served as Acting Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, from May 7, 2019, again Acting Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
On June 13, 2019, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Mykola Balan as Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
On August 23, 2024, he was awarded the military rank of Colonel General.
Awards. He was awarded the Orders of Merit, II and III degrees, and the medal For Military Service in Ukraine.
