Sergey Borisovich Bessarab – ex-Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine,Lieutenant General. TOCommander of the Troops of the Territorial Administration “North” (2005–2007). First Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2012–2015), Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2015–2019).
Place of Birth. Education. Born on November 13, 1955 in the village. Old Kodaks of the Dnepropetrovsk region.
In 1977 he graduated from the Kiev Higher Combined Arms Command School named after M. Frunze in 1977, the Military Academy named after M. M. Frunze in 1990, the National Defense Academy of Ukraine in 2002.
Career. At various times he served as the commander of a separate commandant platoon, adjutant of the secretariat of the military district, was a teacher of the military department of the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy, commander of a motorized rifle company, commander of a motorized rifle battalion.
After graduating from the Military Academy. M. Frunze in 1990 continued to serve in Transcaucasian and Odessa military districts the USSR, Northern and Southern operational commands as deputy commander and then commander of a motorized rifle regiment of a motorized rifle division, commander of a training tank regiment, and then deputy chief of a district training center for training junior specialists, commander of a mechanized division.
2002 to 2007 – chief of staff – First Deputy Commander of the Army Corps of the Northern Operational Command, since 2005 – Head of the Territorial Administration “North”.
Since May 2007, he served as commander of the 6th Army Corps of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was the head of the Dnepropetrovsk garrison,
May 2012 to 2015 – First Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
2015 to 2019 – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On March 4, 2023, he was appointed Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine in the government of Denis Shmygal.
December 15, 2023 Bessarab filed resignation letter. December 16 The Verkhovna Rada accepted the resignation of Sergei Bessarab from the post Minister for Veterans Affairs.
Awards. Order of Merit” III degree (2009).
Declaration. According to the electronic declaration for 2019, Bessarab has a land plot in the Chernigov region and a service apartment in Chernigov. He drives a Toyota Camry, his wife Alla Bessarab drives a Mitsubishi Pajero.
